Mission Statement
:

Sacred Heart School is a ministry of Sacred Heart Parish that brings dedicated parents and skilled faculty and staff together to provide the best possible Catholic Education for grade school children in the Salinas Valley.

School Philosophy:

We seek to create a Christian family environment in which we affirm the worth of each individual and promote positive self-esteem. We emphasize reverence, respect, and responsibility. We foster global awareness and service to others. We encourage partnership with our parents, the primary educators, to achieve the educational goals of Sacred Heart School students.

Throughout our curriculum and instruction, we guide students of varied abilities to achieve their full potential and become responsible and moral decision-makers in a world of advancing technology and challenged Christian values.

Our Vision:

We envision our graduates as:

Faithful Catholics who:
• Demonstrate the beliefs and traditions of the Catholic Church
• Apply the teachings of Jesus to their lives
• Recognize God’s presence in themselves and others
• Demonstrate our school principles of “Reverence, Respect, and Responsibility”
   (For self, Church, and others)

Life long learners who:
• Value education and continue their intellectual curiosity and eagerness for learning
• Develop academically, physically, morally and creatively, as a whole person
• Strive for success while learning to deal with life’s challenges and disappointments

Problem Solvers who:
• Use available resources to find answers to questions they have about the world
• Work independently and collaboratively to find solutions to challenges
• Use critical thinking and organizational skills as tools for success

Responsible citizens who:
• Show awareness of and responsibility for God’s creation
• Involve themselves in their school, community, & world, while exhibiting global awareness
• Appreciate cultural diversity
• Demonstrate school principles of “Reverence, Respect, and Responsibility”
• Are proactive in maintaining healthy minds, bodies, and attitudes by adopting
a healthy life style focused on wellness.

School Profile:

Sacred Heart School is located within the central business district of the city of Salinas. Although affiliated with Sacred Heart Parish, the school itself serves students from 13 other parishes. There is a definite commitment on the part of these parents to provide a quality Catholic education for their children. Many of our students are second- or third-generation descendents of former students who attended Sacred Heart School since its founding in 1906. Of the student population, approximately 75% are from ethnic minorities.

Curriculum:

Through our curriculum we guide students of varied abilities toward academic excellence and responsible, moral decision-making in a world of advanced technology and challenged Christian values. Sacred Heart School offers a strong, academic program though comprehensive K-8 curriculum which emphasizes basic skills in reading, math, language arts, social studies, and science. Specialists provide physical education, computer, and music instruction. A full-time resource teacher is available for students with special learning needs. In addition to a full academic program, our curriculum is supplemented through an after-school sports program, student council, academic Decathlon, student-prepared liturgies and prayer services, and an extended-care program.

Accreditation:

Sacred Heart School is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA).
